NEW play equipment is coming to a Meltham park.

Teenage skateboarders can expect work to start on specialist ramps and half-pipes later this year, but tots will have to wait a little longer for their slide.

The youngsters' play area in the Robert Ashton Memorial Park was discussed at a meeting of Meltham Town Council's finance committee.

Chairman John Bakanoba said: "We did improve the play area about three or four years ago and refurbished it with new equipment, but the slide was removed."

The cost of replacing it, possibly in the new year, would be £5,000.

The skate park has been priced at about £60,000.

A number of improvements are earmarked for the park, including new cycleways and signs to make the entrance easier to find.

"We want to encourage people to come into the park," said Mr Bakanoba.
