WORK starts this week on a multi-million pound scheme to finally transform The Shay Stadium in Halifax.

Calderdale Council has appointed experienced sports stadium contractors Hall Construction Services Ltd to carry out the design and build contract on the east stand.

Once completed, the stand will house 3,500 fans, a banqueting suite for 280 people a terrace opening out over the pitch, bars for fans and changing facilities for the players and match officials.

Space will also be left within the stand for the provision of higher education as part of the Halifax Customer First scheme.

It is hoped that the stand will be complete and ready for fans to use by the end of May next year.

Clr Stephen Baines, leader of Calderdale Council, said: “The Council is investing £4.5m into the redevelopment of the stand because we are committed to supporting professional sport within the district and creating healthier communities.”
