WORK is to start on repairing a road hit by a landslip.

An emergency closure of the A6024 Woodhead Road on Holme Moss will begin on January 17.

The closure will be between Holme Moss summit and one kilometre (half a mile) towards Holme, and will enable the section of hillside lost in the recent landslip to be repaired.

Access to Holme village will be maintained from Holmfirth at all times.

Engineers fear if the work is not done now, further sections of hillside may be affected which will lead to a longer road closure in the future.

Work to rectify the problem will start on January 17 and will take about three or four weeks to complete - though this could be longer if the weather is bad.

Diversion signs will go up on January 16 and the alternative route will be the A628, A616 and B6106 to Holmfirth.
