WORK has started on a £10m housing scheme at a renovated Meltham mill site.

The Sunnybank Mill development at Red Lane will include 59 homes built on a three- and-a-half-acre site.

The development will include 19 one and two-bedroom apartments and 40 homes, including some four-bedroom properties.

Prices will range from £90,000 to £230,000.

Some of the homes will be built in the renovated mill buildings and others will be built on the site.

Developers Hargreaves Homes, a subsidiary of McInerney Groups, has said all properties will be constructed in sympathy with the old buildings of the former mill.

Gerry Sweeney, managing director of Hargreaves Homes, said Meltham had been chosen for the project because it was a desirable and up-and-coming area.

He said: "Meltham is an attractive town with its countryside location and stunning views. However it also offers convenient access to transport links such as the M62 motorway."

The first homes on the site are due for completion in August.
