A MACHINE tool company has started to build its new factory in Elland.
Boxford Ltd has been in a former cotton mill at Wheatley in Halifax for 70 years, but is now looking to the future with the move across Calderdale.
Over the past 10 years the company has invested more than £1.3m in sophisticated machinery and equipment.
The firm is a leading supplier of machine tools to schools and training organisations worldwide – and it now designs high-technology software and electronics. Almost all its manual machines in its machining and sheet-metal manufacturing areas have been replaced with the latest computerised equipment.
The foundation stone was laid on Saturday by Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker who is a member of the Education Select Committee at Westminster.
He said: “Boxford has had the foresight to build a new factory in times of austerity and secured high technology jobs in the Calder Valley.
“The factory is one of the first new buildings that will help transform the skyline in the Dewsbury Road area of Elland.’’
