WORK to transform a Holme Valley hospital ward is well under way.

The £2m building project to upgrade the Hawthorn Ward suite at Holme Valley Memorial hospital in Holmfirth is set to be complete by next spring.

As part of the makeover and new state-of-the-art facilities, wards will have just three beds and ensuite facilities.

Hawthorn Ward was originally built for mental health patients and has stood empty for several years.

Holme Valley Matron Julia Calcraft said: “One thing we were determined about was to have a new conservatory. Our League of Friends paid for the existing conservatory and it is extremely well-used.

“We’re all looking forward to work being completed and being able to offer high standards of care in first class surroundings.”
