A machete-wielding raider tried to rob a bookmakers in Lindley.

But he was thwarted by a brave worker inside the betting office.

The raid happened at 1pm on Sunday at The Timebox bookmakers, Acre Street, Lindley, but police have released details only today.

They have appealed for any information from anyone who was near the premises at the time or who may have seen the man loitering around outside.

They have also released a description of the wanted man.

Police say the man entered the shop and a member of staff saw him trying to remove a long curved knife from under his clothing, but he was unable to do so.

He was bravely confronted by staff and fled.

The man was described as around 30-years-old, 5”8 - 5”10 tall and was either of Asian or Turkish nationality. He was wearing a long black shirt with his head and face covered.

Det Con Oliver Scoones at Huddersfield CID, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the bookmakers on Sunday afternoon and either saw this man or have any information to help with our enquiries.”
