COUNCIL workers fixing a sewage pipe damaged a gas main and forced a street to close for nearly 24 hours.
Kirklees Council staff were carrying out sewage pipe works on Dunford Road in Holmfirth just before 10am yesterday.
They damaged a gas pipe as they worked on the system.
An emergency team from United Utilities was sent out and they asked for the road to be closed as a precaution.
United Utilities spokes- man Richard Felton said: "We carried out the repairs and the gas engineers managed to repair the main by 7.30pm last night.
"There was also the good news that although the road was closed we were able to work on it and reduce the pressure in the system at that time, so we didn't lose the supply to any properties in the area."
The road reopened at 6am today.
