RAIL passengers travelling between Huddersfield and Manchester can expect delays to their journeys this autumn.

The line between Huddersfield and Ashton-under-Lyne will close from October 27 until November 4 while work is carried out at Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.

West Yorkshire’s transport authority Metro has said the work is to increase train speeds and passenger capacity.

It is expected buses will run between Huddersfield and Ashton-under-Lyne.

Trains between Leeds and Huddersfield are expected to be reduced to two per hour.

The Caldervale line Manchester Victoria to Leeds via Brighouse service will run only between Hebden Bridge and Leeds to allow extra capacity on that line for diverted Transpennine Express services.
