A SUPERMARKET worker who captured one of the England football team’s most memorable World Cups took part in a special signing at his workplace.
Pete Davies signed copies of the DVD One Night in Turin and chatted with customers at Sainsbury’s Market Street.
The film, about England’s progression to the semi-final of Italia ’90, was inspired by Pete’s book All Played Out.
Pete, 51, was in Italy to write about the tournament that signalled a rebirth of English football.
The accomplished writer works for the Huddersfield store as part of the fresh foods team.
But he took a short break away from his work to meet football fans and answer questions about the film and his book that inspired it all.
Mary Kitchen from the store said: “There’s been quite a bit of interest but people have been stopping Pete and asking him questions ever since his story first hit the headlines.
“A few of us at the store knew he’d written books but nobody had a clue about this book until he told us it had been picked up and made into a film.
“A few of us went to the premiere in Huddersfield and we’re very proud of Pete – it’s nice working with a celebrity!”
The film is narrated by actor Gary Oldman and extras include an interview with a panel, including Pete.
Copies are now available in the store and the writer is happy to sign them on request.
