AUTHOR and broadcaster Peter Hennessy is to give the first Harold Wilson Lecture at Huddersfield University.

The free public lectures - named in honour of the Huddersfield-born former Labour Prime Minister - are organised by the university and the Wakefield Anglican diocese.

The annual series will cover social, ethical or political themes.

Mr Hennessy, a former Times correspondent who is now Professor of Contemporary History at Queen Mary's College, London University, will give his lecture on Wednesday, April 28, starting at 6.30pm.

He will talk, on Government and ethics in the main lecture theatre on Canalside West, Firth Street.
