A TALENTED young writer has been named as first runner-up in a national contest.

And Georgina Hellawell’s telepathtic mortal Tiana was such a hit with author Jason Ellis that he sent her a signed copy of his latest book with a special message.

Eleven-year-old Georgina entered the competition to create a children’s book character in her final year of Stile Common Junior School, Newsome.

Author Jason asked youngsters to create a new character for his Amelia Maylock series, with the winner getting to see their character appear in his second novel Hidden in the Amethyst.

Tiana works undercover for Amelia’s evil twin sister, Erryaz, in the fantasy series in which Amelia has to retrieve nine jewels.

The first books was called The Twelfth Years Awakening.

“Georgina is an exceptional writer and an avid reader,” said her proud mum Jan, of Orchard Terrace, Primrose Hill.

“She learned to read when she was three and has always had a reading age several years above her actual age.

“I love writing and did an English degree at Huddersfield University, so I think she may be following me in that respect.”

Georgina is the only girl in her family, having five brothers, aged 16, seven, three-year-old twins and an eight-month-old baby.

She was on the gifted and talented programme at Stile Common, gained all level fives in her year six SATs tests.

She starts at Newsome Sports College in September.
