BIRKBY’s Carolynne Poole lost a deadlock decision in the X Factor last night.

She was up against Rylan Clark after the pair were left behind in the viewers’ choice.

But the sing off ended in a 2-2 deadlock between the judges before Rylan was ruled winner for having most viewers’ votes.

Gary Barlow introduced his protege Carolynne: “I’m devastated to be saying this .. please welcome back the supremely talented Carolynne Poole.”

She sang the Leona Lewis song ‘There you’ll be’.

She admitted last night she had “absolutely loved” her first appearance at the live shows.

The Birkby singer, who this year won through to the live shows after the disappointment of 2011, came up with a new version of the Nicki Minaj hit Starships.

And she received positive feedback from the four judges in particular her mentor Gary Barlow and from Tulisa.

Carolynne, 32, lost out at the judges houses’ stage of the contest last year and said she had been devastated.

This year, though, she was chosen by Barlow to make it on to the live shows. She and her two fellow contestants in the Over 28 section, chimney sweep Kye Sones, 30, and mother-of-two Melanie Masson, 44, also had a pleasant surprise.

They were joined in the live shows by Liverpool singer Christopher Maloney who was given a second chance as he returned to the show as the “wildcard” entry, spared by viewers’ votes.

Barlow had refused to give Maloney a guaranteed place in the finals because he repeatedly suffered from nerves.

And after his reaction to securing a wildcard place – host Dermot O’Leary described him as “a wreck” – it appeared likely that he might struggle again under the pressure. But Maloney said he could not let down the public who had voted for him.

Carolynne spent much of yesterday tweeting her feelings about Saturday night’s show.

She said: “Thank you so much for all the votes and the lovely comments.

“Really, really enjoyed myself”.

One of her followers was actor Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone in Coronation Street.

He posted a picture of his wife, Lucy-Jo Hudson – sister of former Giants and Castleford Super League player Ryan Hudson – and urged people to vote for Carolynne.
