IT was double the fun in Kirkheaton when Yetton Rant and Kirkheaton Art Festival returned to the village.

People flocked to the historic fair, which began on fields near the Beaumont Arms last Thursday and ended yesterday.

Yetton Rant has been held in Kirkheaton for more than 100 years.

Running alongside Yetton Rant for the fourth year was the Kirkheaton Art Festival, held at Kirkheaton Parish Church from Saturday to Monday.

It featured painting, quilting, sculpture, jewellery, embroidery and work from children at schools in Dalton, Kirkheaton and Upper Whitley, plus work by staff and residents at Kirkwood Hospice.

All the work on show was done by local people and more than 600 people visited the church to see it.

The Rev Richard Steel, rector of Kirkheaton, said: “The festival is a way of opening up the church and promoting local people’s creativity.”
