HOOLIGANS travelling by train to Huddersfield Town's clash with Nottingham Forest were targeted by police today.

More than 500 officers took part in a nationwide day of action to tackle yobs causing chaos on public transport.

A total of 19 key fixtures today - including five Premiership matches - where police fear there is the potential for disorder had extra policing. Police said the fixtures in London involving supporters of Leeds and Hull were of "particular concern".

Andy Trotter, Deputy Chief Constable of British Transport Police, said: "Rowdy football fans can be a nightmare for other passengers. Even when they are only being boisterous, in the confines of a train or in large groups on stations, they can be very intimidating."
