PLANNERS will decide next week if an old fire station can be converted into a yoga studio and cafe.

Marilyn Heginbotham, of Denshaw, has asked Kirklees Council for permission to convert Marsden Fire Station.

The 102-year-old Manchester Road building has been empty since 2005 when its part-time firefighters moved to the adjacent Emergency House.

Mrs Heginbotham wants to set up a yoga studio with room for 25 people as well as a cafe with a capacity of 40.

The plan includes building a two-floor extension at the back of the building to provide extra floorspaces for the cafe as well as toilets and a kitchen. There would also be 24 parking spaces.

The development would create four full-time and two part-time jobs.

Kirklees Council’s Huddersfield Planning Sub-committee will rule on the plan at its meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall at 1pm on Thursday.
