A musical salute to fallen soldiers will ring out through Huddersfield when recruits stage a World War centenary event next month.

The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment will be joined by pipers from the Scots Guards Association and the Kirklees Mass Choir at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday November 15 to sing the praises of all those who lost their lives during the Great War.

A musical extravaganza, they will perform a musical programme of rousing music from the last 100 years, which will open with a tribute to the Royal Air Force with Eric Coates’ music to The Dambusters, followed by Glen Miller classics to bring back memories of that era.

All three groups will also take to the stage on their own, with the regiment band performing excerpts from Saving Private Ryan’s Hymn to The Fallen by John Williams, the pipers selection of music arranged specifically for the occasion and version of the Highland Cathedral.

There will then be a choral rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, music from Les Miserables and Cats.

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to The Yorkshire Regiment Trust, a charity supporting soldiers and families who find themselves in difficulty or need, which has paid over 1400 grants totalling over £420,000 since 2009.

The Yorkshire Regiment and its antecedent regiments have been in operation since 1685 and currently have battalions in Wiltshire, Cyprus and the Reserve battalion in Yorkshire, who have all served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
