A bus operator in Huddersfield has already earned its stripes with its new owners.

Buses that used to run under the Centrebus and Huddersfield Bus Company names are getting a new identity – Yorkshire Tiger – and a striking new orange livery.

The rebrand comes just a month after the Elland-based businesses were acquired by bus and rail giant Arriva.

Sunderland-based Arriva plc gained sole control after buying out Centrebus Ltd’s 60% stake in their joint venture, Centrebus Holdings Ltd.

The deal also includes a bus business based in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Services include ones running between Huddersfield and destinations including Denby Dale, Clayton West, Grange Moor and Wakefield.

Other vehicles now in Arriva’s ownership run between Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate.

The business operates 152 vehicles and employs 360 people in West Yorkshire and Hinckley.

Arriva services from Huddersfield include ones to Leeds via towns including Mirfield, Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury and Batley.

A spokeswoman for Arriva said the first buses were now operating with the new branding and the whole fleet was being rebranded at a rate of about four a week. In a few months, all the vehicles will have the Yorkshire Tiger look.
