YORKSHIRE Water has signed a £6m deal for new computer gear to help run its water treatment works.

The Bradford-based company has signed an agreement with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation to buy industrial computer hardware and software which will allow it to control and operate its 750 clean and waste water treatment facilities remotely.

The five-year deal will also see the technology being introduced at Yorkshire Water’s sewage pumping stations, allowing the firm to monitor and activate these sites remotely in the future.

Charlie Haysom, of Yorkshire Water, said: “We're always searching for new technology that will enable us to do our job better and ultimately improve the service we offer our customers and this is certainly one development which will have a very positive impact.”
