SOMEONE could have died in two nights of terror on the buses.

That was the message from police and bus bosses today.

Young thugs pelted a passing bus in Lowerhouses with bricks at 9pm on Wednesday.

Just 24 hours later a gang lobbed a huge breeze block through the 327 bus window at the same spot in Hall Cross Road.

The missile missed one passenger by inches and showered the inside of the bus with fragments of glass.

Services are continuing to run, but bosses at First are warning that anymore attacks could mean no services in the Lowerhouses area.

Nigel Winter, commercial director of First Buses, urged anyone who knew the culprits to come forward.

"Someone could have been seriously hurt or even worse," he said. "This cannot continue. It must stop immediately before something terrible happens.

"The police have been informed and both ourselves and officers are taking it very seriously.

"Anyone or anything that puts our staff or passengers at risk we take very seriously.

"But the last thing we want to do is stop buses from running through Lowerhouses.

"At present we have taken the decision to continue in the area but that will stop if these incidents continue.

"People need to dob these idiots in and we have paid rewards through Crimestoppers in the past if offenders have been convicted."

The latest attacks come the day after Arriva announced they had no plans to reinstate services in Keldregate, Bradley, after similar attacks last year.

Pc Geraldine Jones vowed to find the people responsible.

"This is a despicable crime and one that is very dangerous," she said.

"This is not just a prank or a bit of fun it is a potentially fatal. Someone could have died.

"Anyone who knows anything about this attack must get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact Pc Jones on 01484 436575 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
