A £5,000 reward was today offered by a Huddersfield garage – to trap two car thieves.

Staff at Quarry Garage also released CCTV footage of one of the men who was thought to be behind the theft of a Nissan XTrail from the Mount complex.

It is believed one of the men had sneaked into a cleaning bay to pick up car keys to the silver Nissan.

Quarry spokesman Allen Hainsworth said: “We want to send a message out to thieves that they cannot get away with it.

“I am certain someone will recognise the man in the CCTV image and can help the police catch him and his accomplice.

“We will pay out a reward if we get the car back and if the thieves are convicted.

“It’s not about the value of the vehicle; it’s a matter of principle”.

The thieves struck at 7.25pm on Tuesday, January 17.

They drove into the New Hey Road premises in a silver Peugeot 207 and one of them is thought to have driven off in that while the second drove away the Nissan, registered number YY06 SUU.

Police confirmed they were hunting two white men.

One was chubby with a dark tracksuit top and dark trousers, while the second was wearing dark clothing with a hood pulled up over his head.

Anyone who can help with the inquiry is urged to contact Pc Daniel Ashton of the Huddersfield North Neighbourhood Policing team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
