A terrifying robbery was captured on CCTV as a knifeman threatened a shop worker in Almondbury.

One of the robbers – thought to be the knifeman – jumped on the counter then grabbed the female sales assistant at the One Stop Shop in Fernside Avenue.

She was then threatened with the knife and a second man, who had his face covered with a scarf, also threatened her with a bottle of brandy.

She was badly shaken but uninjured.

Now detectives investigating the attack have released images from the footage to help trace those for the robbery which happened at 8.30pm on Saturday.

Police have previously told how two men entered the shop as staff were getting ready to close the store for the night.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Kirklees CID, said: “One of the men was armed with a knife. He jumped over the counter, grabbed the female sales assistant and threatened her with the knife before making off with some money from the till.”

The man with the knife was white, 5ft 6 to 5ft 7 and of stocky build.

He had a black scarf covering his face and wore a black hat, black coat and black jeans.

The second suspect is white and stocky.

He was also wearing a scarf covering his face and dark clothing.

Another member of staff working in the back office managed to raise the alarm to police.

Det Insp Leonard said that it would have appeared as though the female worker was on her own to the men.

He urged witnesses to come forward and added: “This was a totally unnecessary, violent attack on what really was a lone female member of staff.”
