HUDDERSFIELD is going to be taken over by children from across the UK competing in the first ever National Multiplayer Dancemat Tournament.

Youth activity specialist SHOKK have organised the event that will take place on Saturday, July 19, at The Zone, off St Andrew’s Road.

It is a chance to showcase some of Britain’s most talented dancers and give others a go at the new dancemat craze. Children aged 8 to 18 will have the chance to win prizes for the best individual performance.

Staff at The Zone are asking children who are interested to contact them.

Kieran Murphy, marketing director of SHOKK, said: ‘Facilities such as the Zone have been instrumental in pioneering new products and activities to capture young peoples imaginations when it comes to youth fitness.”

He wants the event to raise the profile of dance mats as a form of physical activity, and also give youngsters an opportunity to showcase their talent in a competitive environment.

Kieran hopes the tournament will become an annual event and believes it has the opportunity to grow year on year as more and more children get involved.
