LITTLE children touched by the disaster brought in their Christmas presents to help the appeal.

Young dancers made their first donations at classes held by the Barbara Peters School of Dancing at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

Claire Peters, who runs the school, said there had been a fantastic response.

"There was a room full of things," she said today.

Other dancers are bringing their gifts to the school's main building at Market Walk in the centre of Huddersfield.

* Guidelines were published today aimed at making sure that as much as possible of the money given after the Asia tsunami reaches those in need.

The Charity Commission guidelines focus on ensuring that people keep giving, on minimising bureaucracy and on alerting charities to available tax breaks.

The commission's chief executive, Andrew Hind, said "The public's generosity in the wake of this dreadful disaster has been overwhelming.

"This proves - if proof were needed - that we are a nation of givers."
