A YOUNG group of dancers are celebrating their win in a talent contest.

The newly-formed quintet– Tenacious – beat off competition from performers from all over the north to take home the top prize in their first ever competition.

Talented teenagers Abbie Brewster, Paris Johnson, Sophie Brook, Andrew Torkornoo and Jade McDonald are now hoping for big things with their slick street dance act.

Dance is enjoying a massive revival across the UK.

Dance acts have done extremely well in talent shows like Britain’s Got Talent and many young people are taking up the activity.

The Huddersfield group – all aged 14 to 16, took part in the Foresters Have Talent contest, which is run by Foresters, an international financial services group.

The teenagers joined dancers, singers and comedians from all over the north competing before a panel of judges at the event in Rotherham.

The group scooped the top prize of £500 after impressing with their original hip hop routine, which they performed to their own mixed music backing track.

They will now perform with winners from other heats at the company’s annual ball in August. The contest is open to all Foresters members and their direct family

Tenacious have been together for just four months after meeting while taking part in dance classes at the Brian Jackson Centre.

They train four times a week at a dance studio at Newsome High School, where four of them attend.

The teenagers plan to buy a new portable music player and matching clothing with their winnings.

Abbie’s dad Andy Brewster said: “They were very proud to win their first competition; the judges said the group were very tight and they had not seen some of their moves before.

“They work really hard and have been booked for a few birthday parties and weddings.

“They are inspired by the group Diversity and are hoping to be as big as them one day.”
