DAREDEVIL pupils at a Linthwaite school pitted their brains and driving skills against their pals.

Children at Linthwaite Ardron Memorial Junior and Infant School in Church Lane have been building go-karts since January, to go head-to-head at the end of term.

Deputy head teacher Keith Lockwood said the pupils, who had some help from older students at Colne Valley High School in Gillroyd Lane, had worked hard to get the karts up to speed.

He added: "We started work on the karts back in January. The children have really enjoyed the process, from designing to building - and then finally racing.

"Of course the bit they liked the best was racing. But I think all the hard work and what they have learned since we started building the karts made that even more fun.

"We are hoping this might become a bit of a tradition. We could do similar projects," added Mr Lockwood.
