THREE swimming sensations have amazed their coach with their skills.

Daniel Cross, seven, brother Alex, six and their friend Susie Woodward, five, have been swimming since they were babies.

And now a mixture of dedication and natural talent is reaping rewards for the protégés, all from Holmfirth.

Daniel is celebrating after passing the Amateur Swimming Association's Honours Award. The gruelling test included swimming 40 lengths in just 20 minutes.

He has now started training for the even tougher Elite Award.

Gemma Ripley, his coach at the Stadium Pool at the Galpharm Stadium, said Daniel was at least three years ahead of other swimmers his age.

"To do this award you tend to be at least 10 or 11 years old," she said.

"I have been teaching for 10 years and have coached only two people for the Elite Award and never anyone so young. Bearing in mind his age and the level he has reached already he is the highest standard swimmer we have had here."

And Alex and Susie are snapping at his heels - they have both completed a marathon 64 lengths without stopping.

Gemma said: "We are convinced they will all be champions and swimming stars. They can do all four strokes at a very high level already."
