They are only little but they put their best foot forward in memory of Isaac Nash, tragically lost at sea.

Seven-year-old Han Barden-Nash and six-year-old Kiki Barden-Nash, along with their friends Mya Larder, six, and Freya Larder, seven, set off on a sponsored walk up Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales.

Supported by Will Basnett, his partner Samantha Nash, Isaac’s aunt, Isaac’s grandfather Howard Lewis and Mya’s and Freya’s mum Kirsti Larder they conquered Snowdon with barely a complaint.

In total the group raised almost £5,000 in sponsorship money.

Snowden summiteers: Kiki Barden-Nash, Han Barden-Nash, Mya Larder and Freya Larder.

The mountain has an emotional significance for the Nash family as father Adam, Isaac and his younger brother Xander shared a hug at its summit the day before Issac was swept away off Anglesey in August.

Howard, a retired West Yorkshire firefighter from Kirkburton, said: “It’s a magnificent achievement, climbing more than 3,500ft.

“We set off at 8.30am and got back down at 4.30pm. It was a fantastic day weatherwise, blue skies and sunshine. We had intended to do it the day before but the weather was atrocious.”

Since Isaac, a 12-year-old pupil at Kirkburton Middle School, was dragged out to sea in a rip current, his devastated family and friends have sought to raise £100,000 to create a scooter park in the village.

Howard added: “Everything is going along quite promisingly. Kirklees Council is being very supportive and we are raising money at quite a lick.”

More than £40,000 has been raised in just over two months with plenty more major fundraising events planned.
