AN ACTIVITIES event to promote healthy living was held at Newsome Youth Club.

Fifty young people from Kirkburton, Denby Dale and the Holme and Colne Valleys enjoyed free activities including t'ai chi, yoga, netball and Indian head massage.

There was also a mini-Olympics with shot put, discus and races plus a five-a-side football tournament.

The event was organised by Kirklees Young People's Service as part of National Youth Work Week, which aims to encourage youngsters to live healthy lifestyles. Theresa Dyson, team leader for the service in Kirkburton, Almondbury and Denby Dale, said: "They absolutely loved it."

Representatives of drug advice service DrugSense, the Kirklees Teenage Pregnancy Unit and Huddersfield's primary care trusts were also there giving advice.
