A CHILDREN’S sports complex with links to Huddersfield Town and Giants is near to completion.

The Zone, formerly Verbrook House, is being developed by the Sporting Pride Community Trust, a charity set up by Huddersfield’s professional sports clubs.

The building, split into five zones, aims to encourage healthier living for children, and will regularly be visited by players from the football and rugby teams in a bid to inspire youngsters to do more exercise.

Once opened to the public The Zone will house a multitude of sport-related activities including the Dance Zone; the Gym Zone, a gym specifically for children; the Sports Zone, 5-a-side football and indoor rugby pitches for adults and children; Learning Zone, classrooms housing the clubs’ Study Support programme and the Kids Zone, a soft play area for children.

Sporting Pride Community Trust manager, Paul France, said the Dance Zone was complete and it was hoped that the whole building would be opened in December.

He said: “The Zone is a state-of-the-art facility which appeals to children and adults by providing exciting activities, with the Dance Zone being just one aspect.

“It is our aim to encourage healthier lifestyles, particularly among children, and The Zone will be a focal point for the excellent community work done by Huddersfield Town and the Huddersfield Giants.

“We will be making more announcements about 5-a-side leagues, pitch bookings, children’s parties and the fantastic children’s gym in the very near future.

“A website is currently under construction and will carry details of all activities The Zone has to offer.”

Groups already signed up for the Dance Zone include, local urban dance troupes, Sugar Brown and baby ballet.
