CYCLE enthusiasts are urging people to make a New Year resolution to get on two wheels.

A short easy ride is being organised by Huddersfield Cycle Touring Club and Kirklees Council's culture and leisure services, to tempt those considering cycling.

A spokeswoman said: "A lot of people will think it is time to get active after the excesses of Christmas.

"We're hoping these bike rides will help to ease them into a more active lifestyle."

The 12-mile ride on Saturday, January 7 will cover Emley, Clayton West, Denby Dale and Shelley, where there will be a stop at the ice cream parlour.

Meet Ken Roberts outside Trycycling, North Road, Kirkburton at 10am.

Riders are urged to bring basic tools, a spare inner tube and a pump should contact Ken Roberts before January 7 on 01484 604157.
