Is your dog a star?

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner together with its partners Calder Vets, Huddersfield Fun4Paws and Mars in the Community, are looking for dogs living in Kirklees who have made an outstanding contribution to their owners of families.

Calder Vets Dog Star Awards wants to recognise and celebrate man’s best friend by asking you to nominate them for an award. Whether you’d like to nominate your family pet, a trained dog or a dog that has shown resilience or bravery, we want to hear from you.

The five categories are: - Assistance Dog, Rescue Dog, Brave Dog, Companion Dog and Against All Odds Dog. Simply complete the nomination at the foot of this page.

The deadline for nominations is Friday July 12

A panel of judges will then choose the top three dogs from each category to go through to a reader vote. These dogs will be featured and readers will choose an overall winner for each category.

The five winners will receive a prestigious award at this year’s Bark in the Park on Saturday, August 17

Natasha Maskery, Senior Brand Executive at the Examiner said: “Anyone who has ever owned a dog knows what an important part they play in our lives. They are part of the family. For some they are even more precious; they could be a carer, companion or even a life saver. Nominate them now and give them the recognition they deserve.”

John Jackson, Chairman at Huddersfield Fun4Paws added: "At Huddersfield Fun4Paws our "raisin d'être" is to promote responsible dog ownership through our annual Bark in the Park dog fun day. To achieve this objective we realise that we have to address negative aspects such as dog fouling, anti social behaviour, aggressive dogs etc.

“However, by the same token, we feel we need to recognise positive aspects of dog ownership. To this end we have come up with our Dog Star Award Scheme to try and find real dog stars in Kirklees.

“We would like to appeal to everyone in Kirklees to help us find these dogs so we can tell some of their stories and honour those voted as the most deserving at this year's Bark in the Park on August 17th.”

Terms and conditions: The nomination period is between Monday June 24  and Friday July 12 2013. Open to dogs residing in Kirklees MC only. No nomination will be accepted for a  breed of dog which is banned in the UK. The Examiner or its partners may ask for independent verification as to the validity of the nomination. Should any award be subsequently found to have been awarded under false pretences, the Examiner and its partners reserve the right to reclaim the trophy and re-award it the runner up in that category. Each nomination requires a description and photograph of the nominated dog for judging and publicity purposes. These may be printed in paper, online and used by our partners. Photographs received or taken will be retained by the Examiner and partners for publicity purposes. These will not be returned. The editor’s and judge’s decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. The person nominating and the dog nominated must take part in publicity reasonably requested by The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Calder Vets, Huddersfield Fun4Paws and Mars in the Community. The top three dogs in each category will be professionally photographed for use in The Huddersfield Daily Examiner and its website. Publicity material may be used by the Examiner and our partners now and in any future promotions and campaigns. The copy write of these photographs remains with The Huddersfield Daily Examiner and its partners.
