THE seediest thing in Honley is clearly the filthy minds of its residents and councillors. There is no sex taking place in the fetish club mentioned and it has been there for 12 months without any disturbance to local residents.

The suggestion that it affects children in any way shape or form is frankly ridiculous. A group of consenting adults enjoying dressing in leather or latex whilst enjoying some role-play fun in a closed controlled atmosphere is doing no harm to anybody.

If the club does get closed I hope the local residents find themselves with a business that attracts fifty 40 ton trucks trundling through the village night and day.

This is a massive over-reaction by a small minority that imagines depravity is taking place on their doorsteps. They should have a long look at their own imaginations before imposing their ill-judged views on a group of adults that wishes no harm to anybody. It's a Victorian attitude to a harmless sexual minority.

"FURY over sex club"? (Examiner November 5) It would seem from this story that until this letter was sent, no-one was even aware of anything going on.

Were there any complaints about the club's actual operation? Did anyone notice anything? Apparently not if this is the first anyone has heard of it. As for it affecting the children's play area, did anyone at the play area even notice?

Presumably a club of this type is open at night. So are there any children even near it while it is operating? Is it suddenly a threat to morals and house prices? It does not appear to have been so for the last however long of operation.

The only thing that has changed is the people know that it is there. People are outraged? By what? Has anyone been forced to witness anything? Or even heard anything? Frankly what people get up to in private is up to them. Surely consenting adults can do what they want in private. If this were going on in someone's home involving just the couple living there, would that effect house prices and morals?

THE only connection I see between sex clubs and children is you need to have sex to have children. A shocking thought, I know, but it's true.

If your children are out late at night frequenting these areas - given it's very late at night when these types of clubs open - then, firstly, the only thing they would see is cars drawing up and people walking into a building, and, secondly, where are your parenting skills allowing your children out late at night? I'm sure though they've seen cars and people before now.

ON reading of the controversy surrounding the Nemesis Club I have to ask, what sort of child is going to be out playing at 10pm when the club opens?

Those who have expressed opposition are typical NIMBYs, using "b...b...but the children, think of the children" as an excuse for their own closed-mindedness and prejudice.

The people who attend these clubs are not in the habit of corrupting children, nor do they walk the streets dressed in fetish wear. Most get changed in the club or wear long coats to cover up.

WHAT'S wrong with people having fetish clubs if that's what they want? Why is it any worse than line-dancing or private gyms? Are we living in some kind of Orwellian world where what people do in private, behind closed doors, is controlled by the council?
