HUDDERSFIELD people are being urged to have a say on bus route changes in their part of town.

The move comes after complaints about services in the Newsome area.

Metro and bus operators First will be running a consultation bus around the area on Saturday.

The consultation has been arranged following meetings between Metro, First and Kirklees councillors from the Newsome ward.

Clr Julie Stewart-Turner said: "Many local residents have complained about the bus service in parts of the ward.

"First Bus and Metro agree that the service isn't meeting people's needs.

"They are keen to work with councillors to improve services."

But Clr Stewart-Turner warned that resources at First and Metro were limited and there would be no extra buses or drivers.

However, she said services could be re-arranged to suit travellers better.

She added: "The first step is to ask local people about what they need from the bus company."

The consultation bus can be found from 9.30am to 11.30am in Jackroyd Lane, outside Newsome Parish Church.

From 11.45am to 1.45pm, it will be outside Lowerhouses Community Building in Fanny Moor Lane, Lowerhouses.

Finally, from 2pm to 4pm, it will be at Roger Lane, Ashenhurst.

There will be questionnaires on the bus for people to fill in.

Clr Stewart-Turner said: "We hope many people will take advantage of this opportunity to influence the bus services in the local area."

For people who cannot attend, questionnaires are available from the Lowerhouses Community Building, Newsome Parish Church or the Together community shop in Newsome Road South.

Questionnaires must be handed in by September 19.

The answers on the questionnaires will be studied and announced at a public meeting in the parish church at 7pm on Monday, October 13.
