COUNCIL taxpayers are being given a say on how Kirklees Council spend their money.

People are being asked to give their ideas about where money should be spent and saved.

An online budget tool called ‘You Choose’ is currently available through the council’s website which allows visitors to show how they would ‘balance the books’ and which council services are most important to them.

All the feedback from the site will be considered by councillors as part of budget discussions leading up to a final decision on the budget by full council on February 22, 2012.

Kirklees director of resources, David Smith, said: “Visit the site to see our current thinking – and then use it to suggest changes to our proposed spending on different service areas.”

The You Choose site will be available until December 28 when the public consultation on overall budget priorities will close.

Those who do not wish to use the online tool to give their views can email their budget suggestions direct to consultation@kirklees.gov.uk

Local people can also take part in another consultation – the Your Place, Your Say survey – to give their views on the areas where they live.

This survey is currently under way and closes on November 25.
