VILLAGERS will help draw up a statement on future development in their area.
People living in the Clifton area of Brighouse will contribute to a village design statement to ensure everything they value is considered before changes are made.
The idea was backed by Cabinet members of Calderdale Council after English Heritage said Clifton should not be designated a Conservation Area.
A full study of the area found that, although Clifton has a pleasant residential character with some historic buildings, twentieth century rural developments have substantially altered it.
They agreed that a design statement for the area would be far more appropriate than conservation status.
Clr Amanda Byrne, portfolio holder for economy and environment, said: “A lot of work has taken place on this matter and we felt the best way forward would be to help residents come up with a village design statement.
“The council will be working closely with people who live there and a number of groups including Clifton Action Group and Brighouse Civic Trust.’’
