HUDDERSFIELD people are being urged to get their skates on and make the most of this Christmas’s festivities.
The Piazza’s ice rink (pictured), which attracted more than 15,000 skaters last year, is coming back.
To make sure they are not disappointed people can buy advance tickets for the most popular dates, which are Christmas Eve and the rink’s opening day, Thursday, November 15.
Tickets for those days go on sale tomorrow at Huddersfield and Holmfirth information centres and Dewsbury Town Hall.
Tickets for other days will be for sale from October 15.
On the opening day there will be three half-hour lunchtime skating sessions from 12.15pm, followed by the usual one-hour sessions.
The final skate will be from 5.15pm to 6.15pm on Christmas Eve.
Clr Ken Sims, Kirklees Cabinet’s member for regeneration, said that this year the skating sessions would be more accessible to all members of the public.
He added: “Each weekday we will offer half-hour sessions for people working in and around the town centre.
“We will have family sessions, teenage sessions between 4pm and 5pm, after- work sessions at 5.15pm and a final open session between 6.15pm and 7.15pm.
“Mornings offer gentle skating to the public for those who are novices or prefer to take things a little steadier. Friday evenings will be for younger residents.”
A further attraction will be a cafe. Clr Sims said: “The cafe is in response to feedback we received last year.
“We also had a large number of children’s parties, so now the cafe area can be pre-booked.’’
