TWO young Huddersfield singers are determined to pursue their dream of stardom, despite a savaging in front of millions of viewers.

Nathan Miah and Elizabeth Solverson were given short shrift by judges on The X Factor on Saturday night.

The pair – known as Dreamtime – sang We Belong Together by Mariah Carey on the hit ITV show.

But judge Simon Cowell was not impressed by the 17-year-olds from Huddersfield New College.

He told them: “That song was like going to a zoo – the noises. It was just beyond anything I’ve ever heard. One of the worst I’ve ever had on this show.”

The Examiner revealed on Saturday how another local singer, Nikk Mager, was also given a tough time by judges on the same show.

Nathan, who lives in Crosland Moor, told the Examiner that he disagreed with the verdict.

He said: “I thought Simon Cowell was cruel. He didn’t like what we did but I think it’s because we’re too different for The X Factor.”

And the teen singer was also unimpressed by Cowell’s fellow judge, Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud.

Nathan said: “She was really nasty and very rude. She wasn’t a very nice person, I didn’t like her.”

Nathan, who lives at Chapel Terrace in Crosland Moor, studies film and drama at Huddersfield New College. He formed Dreamtime with Elizabeth in March.

Nathan said: “We like to do big ballads by people like Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. I think a recording label will see our performance on the show and sign us up.

“We’ve got something better than The X Factor.”

The pair auditioned for the show at Old Trafford on June 29.

Elizabeth, who lives in Outlane, found the experience tough.

She said: “We were there from 8am to 8pm, performing and doing all sorts of interviews.

“It was very hard and really trying but it was a good experience.”

Elizabeth, who moved to England from Canada last year, studies drama and classical civilisation at Huddersfield New College.

And, like Nathan, she is determined and undaunted.

Elizabeth said: “We’re going to go on singing.”
