Young people from Huddersfield Technical College, Almondbury, Fartown, Newsome and Rastrick high schools and Moor End Technology College, Crosland Moor, got first hand knowledge.

They were among 24,000 teenagers attending the three-day Army careers exhibition at Marne Barracks in Catterick.

The eighth Army Exhibition for Schools included information on the range of careers available to young people in the Army.

It also included the chance to test out assault courses, exhibitions and competitions.

Major Paul Larkman, Army Careers officer for West Yorkshire said: "This type of event gives teenagers the opportunity to take full advantage of talking to soldiers who may have recently returned from active duty.

"We want to get teachers and pupils out of the classroom and into an environment where they can really see what a career in the Army really involves."
