A 15-YEAR-OLD youth has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of an ‘irreplaceable’ innocent man in an attack outside a nightclub.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly punched football-mad Ross Wood, 22, who died after falling and smashing his head on a kerb.

The accused youth appeared at Dewsbury Youth Court yesterday on a manslaughter charge and breach of an ASBO, which had been imposed less than a week before the attack on Saturday night.

The court heard that at the time of the attack – just after midnight and which occurred before several witnesses – the youth was breaking a curfew order which banned him from being outdoors after 8pm.

After the attack, Ross, a plumber known as ‘Woody’ to his mates, was rushed to nearby Dewsbury and District Hospital for critical surgery to treat his severe head injuries but he died on Monday night.

Police arrested his attacker the following day in addition to a second man, 18, who was charged with affray and breach of an ASBO. He was remanded in custody until further notice.

In court, Miss Sarah Waddington, defending, made an application for bail, which was refused by magistrate John Woosey.

The 15-year-old is due to re-appear at Dewsbury Youth Court on November 29.
