ACTRESS Zoe Lucker returned to her Huddersfield home town to visit the charity she supports.

The Footballers' Wives star is celebrity patron of the Laura Crane Trust, which pays for research into cancer among teenagers.

She added her endorsement to the charity's 10th anniversary appeal, Survive and Thrive.

The charity has raised £750,000 in nine years and organisers hope the appeal will take the total to over £1m.

Zoe said: "We tend to associate cancer with adults. But it does strike in teenagers, often in very complex and dangerous forms.

"I hope people can give the trust their full support."

The charity is named after Laura Crane, who died from ovarian cancer at the age of 17 in 1996.

Her mum, Jacquie Roeder, of Edgerton, founded the charity.

An old schoolfriend of Laura's, Helen Mervill, is the trust's youth fundraiser, working with schools, colleges, universities and other young people.

She said: "I find it hard to believe that 10 years have passed since I lost my friend Laura to cancer.

"The bravery and strength shown by Laura throughout her illness is my motivation to ensure we reach £1m raised in her name."
