Fancy being chased through the woods by the living dead?

Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table hope you’ll be up for the challenge in a 5km race to raise cash for charity.

The State of Decay Huddersfield Zombie Run, which takes place in Beaumont Park on March 30, will raise money for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and other local charities.

And aside from the zombie theme, it’s a fun run with a difference and a black story.

A university field trip to Beaumont Park has gone disastrously wrong. A team of geography students have been exposed to a chemical leak, have died and come back as the living dead.

So not only will challengers face steep hills, mud and obstacles, they’ll have to dodge ‘zombies’ intent on ‘infecting’ them.

Each runner will carry three Velcro tags, each representing a life. Make it to the finish with a life or more intact and you’ve survived.

There’ll also be high-risk objectives to complete for prizes such as stealing ‘hearts’ and ‘brains’ off the undead hordes.

The event, organised by Round Table member, Jon Green, of Honley, is inspired by post-apocalyptic zombie films such as Dawn of the Dead and zombie-survival video game, State of Decay.

The zombies, played by Huddersfield University students, will dress and behave like zombies found in different horror films. For example, some will crawl and lumber will some will run.

Details of the event, more on the developing back story and registration can be found at www.huddersfieldstateofdecay.org.uk

Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table spokesman Andrew Sparks said: “It’s the kind of fun run that you’re not going to find anywhere else.

“It’s a unique way of raising money for charity and a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon.”

The Huddersfield Zombie Run will join the Holmfirth Duck Race and the Crosland Hill Bonfire Night fireworks display as one of the Round Table’s principal fundraisers.

Mr Sparks added: “If this takes off it might become a regular feature. We’re really interested to see how this will run.”
