CHEERLEADERS can now sing their own praises after bagging a host of top awards.

The Huddersfield Town cheerleading squad, who perform at Huddersfield Town and Giants matches, were named British Open Champions at the competition in Nottingham last weekend.

The danced away with the top prize, beating cheerleading squads from throughout the UK and as far away as America.

Zoe Prince, cheerleading coach, said: “Everyone was absolutely brilliant, we are over the moon about it and couldn’t have asked for better. We’ll be going back again next year to defend our title that’s for sure.”

Thirty cheerleaders went to the finals and performed twice over the weekend in front of a panel of judges.

They were named the best on both occasions.

Zoe added: “It’s phenomenal for us to be winning these awards, some of them have been doing it for less than a year.

“It keeps getting better and better.

“Everyone really enjoys performing and appearing at the games too.”

More than 300 women are signed up to the cheerleading squad at The Zone, based off St Andrew’s Road.
