From the biomes of The Eden Project in Cornwall to the Scottish Owl Centre in West Lothian, there are loads of great places to visit on your bike with the family.

Some tourist attractions even offer discounts for arriving via green transport.

We've rounded up five of the best cycle trips to take this summer holiday.

Taff Trail, Cardiff

Taff Trail, Cardiff

The cost of keeping the family entertained over the summer can add up, so free activities are always a winner.

So we'll start you off in Wales with the Taff Trail, where the only cost you'll need to factor in is the car ride.

If you're planning to drive, the Thule ProRide 591 Roof Mount Bike Carrier is very useful for getting your bike from A to B. It’s pre-assembled and requires no tools, while the universal attachment allows mounting on roof bars up to 60mm width. You’ll need a carrier per bike – it’s currently £85, saving £25.

Once in Cardiff you'll have access to the scenic trail that runs along the River Taff. You can spend a day cycling or just a few hours, but there are plenty of parks and picnic spots to stop and enjoy.

You can even opt to start (or finish) your day at the spectacular Cardiff Castle. This 11th century building has an amazing history that dates to a fort that occupied the site in AD 55.

Apollo Vortice Junior Hybrid Bike £120 (save £10)

This ride will suit a hybrid bike very nicely indeed. For eight to 11 year olds the Apollo Vortice Hybrid Bike is a great choice. Speed and strength mean it's prefect whether riding on cycle paths or being adventurous and going slightly more off-road. Priced at £120, save £10.

Carrera Parva Hybrid Bike, £200 (save £100)

For the grown ups, check out the Carerra Parva Hybrid Bike , currently reduced to £200 - save £100 in the Big Cycling Sale. The 27.5" wheels ensure that this hybrid bike is as much at home on a trail as it is within an inner city.

The Eden Project, Cornwall

The Eden Project, Cornwall

A 3.5 mile cycle from St Austell train station is The Eden Project, a set of two biomes and outdoor gardens. It's a great place to cycle to, since you'll get a discount on entry if you arrive on a bike - full details can be found here . There's also plenty of space to securely store your bikes in the car park.

The best thing about this attraction is that it's educational, but your little ones won't have any idea that they're learning about science.

You'll be welcomed by a robot made of electrical waste, a giant bee and a sculpture of Eve formed of clay from the quarry in which the Eden Project sits.

Then theres the new Invisible Worlds exhibition, which is all about the world beyond out immediate senses - too big, too small, too fast, too slow, too far away in space and time.

There's plenty more activities to be found on site to thrill the kids, like England's longest zip wire and a giant swing.

The Eden Project encourages visitors to use public transport to get there, but it's worth bearing in mind that if you are planning to bring your bike on a train you'll need to reserve a bike space .

Alternatively, folding bikes with a maximum 20-inch wheel can be carried as luggage without any restriction on GWR trains.

Raleigh Evo-2 Folding Bike, £225 (save £25)

The Raleigh Evo-2 Folding Bike , £225 (save £25) is easy to fold away and is perfect for holidays and taking on public transport.

A nice bonus of arriving at Chester Zoo on a bike is that you'll be able to claim a 15 per cent discount on entry (you need to print a voucher before you leave). There's also ample bike storage and you can cycle from Chester train station in around 20 minutes or so depending on your pace.
