Properties that offer a balance between a semi-rural location and easy access to shops and schools are extremely hard to come by.
Yet this unique bungalow in Wilshaw, between Meltham and Netherthong, is just one of those properties.
It has been home to Philip Thompson and his family for more than a decade.
“The kids have moved away now. Two of our children live in Canada and the others in the south of England, so that’s the reason we’re looking to move on,” said Philip.
“We’ve extended the property and basically turned the house around to take advantage of the tremendous views on both sides.
“It’s overlooking green fields and the golf course, as well as Holmfirth, Marsden, the Peak District and all the regions beyond.’’
The Thompsons added a large conservatory to extend the ground-floor area and take advantage of the views.
As well as occupying a lovely position in a highly sought-after area, the property offers flexible accommodation.
On the ground-floor there is an entrance porch and hall, lounge, extremely spacious conservatory, dining room, breakfast kitchen, study and an additional sitting room, which could be utilised as a fifth bedroom.
The four bedrooms in use currently are found on the first-floor, along with two en-suite shower rooms and a separate shower room and lavatory.
Finished to an extremely high standard throughout, the property benefits from gas central heating, double glazing and a highspeed broadband connection, despite its semi-rural location.

Surrounding the detached home are extensive garden areas, incorporating a large lawn and patio.
“It’s a beautiful area but it’s halfway between Holmfirth and Meltham, so you’ve got good communication routes and great schools,’’ said Phil.
“The nearest railway station is Marsden, but there’s also Huddersfield station to get you on the transpeninne routes to York or Manchester.
“There’s also easy access to Manchester Airport over Greenfield – you don’t have to get on the M62 to get to the airport.
“A local golf course and National Trust land at Marsden is nearby, while Holmfirth is also within easy strike.”
Philip and his family have not yet decided on their next move, but continue to search for a smaller home. As a result, they would consider part-exchange.
