AFC Emley host Ashton Athletic in an FA Cup extra preliminary round Roses clash on Sunday (3.00) – with an away tie at Northwich Victoria up for grabs.

The game has been put back to avoid clash with Drakes League cricket.

The Vics took Huddersfield Town to a first-round replay back in 1980-81, but have since slid down the non-league ranks, and now play in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North, and groundshare at Flixton in Manchester.

Based at Ashton-in-Makerfield, Sunday’s visitors play in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

That’s one rung above Emley, who have started their Northern Counties East League First Division campaign with two wins from two games.

Boss Darren Hepworth, whose side top the embryonic NCEL Division I table, guided Emley to a memorable 3-2 home win over Ashton’s NWCL top-flight rivals Wigan Robin Park in last season’s extra preliminary round, the first of six qualifying stages, and will be plotting another upset.

Ashton are 13th in the NWCL top flight, having won one and drawn two of their four games to date.

A preliminary round tie against Northwich would take place on Saturday, August 30.
