AZAAD and Almondbury Wesleyans remain locked together at the top of the Central League’s Premier Section with only point separating the two title rivals.

Both had easy wins again this week, particularly Azaad who shot out bottom club Woodfield Park for 48 runs with Najam and N Hussain taking four wickets apiece.

Azaad did lose four wickets, all to Sura, before taking maximum points.

Meanwhile, Wesleyans matched that by taking all six from their clash with Nortonthorpe.

Tom Binns (58) and Steve Fisher (62) both hit half-centuries while Matt Henshaw scored 38 as Wesleyans posted a useful 251-7 total.

And that was always going to prove too many for the visitors, although Richard Henstock made a fighting 47 not out before Nortonthorpe were dismissed for 134, Darrell Sykes taking three for 8.

Struggling Thurstonland did their cause no harm with a 45-run win over Penistone, Greg Holmes taking four for 38 and S Wright three for 37 as the visitors were bundled out for 122 replying to Thurstonland’s 167-9, Chris Flanagan and Jack Oldham joint top-scorers with 32 apiece.

Enough games were played last weekend for a change, but several more failed to start or finish, bringing the total number of rain-ruined matches this year to 202!
