SKELMANTHORPE’S promising teenage opener Dan Barber was just four short of his second-team maiden century when he was dismissed in the Drakes Premiership Two clash with Primrose Hill.
Barber (96) put on 119 for the second wicket with Stuart Hartill (53) as the Lidgett Laners won by seven wickets to keep themselves in the title race.
Most matches beat the weather, and Holmfirth beat Shepley to go top of the table after leaders Kirkburton had crashed at Slaithwaite.
Tom Craddock proved to be Holmfirth’s matchwinner, hitting an unbeaten 51 and putting on 69 for the fifth wicket with Mike Boccaro (44) as the visitors totalled 185-7.
Craddock (three for 58) then combined with Phil Birkhead (four for 16) to hold Shepley to 177-8.
Chris Payne did a similar job for Slaithwaite, taking three Kirkburton wickets and then top-scoring with an unbeaten 66 in the eight-wicket win.
Edward Kaye took five wickets for just 10 runs in 12 overs, as Honley hammered bottom club Shelley by 10 wickets, while another five-wicket performer was 13-year-old Alex Walker from Linthwaite, who bagged five for 19, including a hat trick in the victory over Paddock.
