LUKE BECKETT scored his first goal in three months last night as Town Reserves claimed an excellent 1-0 win against Leeds.

The 30-year-old frontman - who hasn't started a first-team game in eight matches since November 25 - pounced after 28 minutes at Elland Road with a lob over goalkeeper Jonathan Lund.

It was Beckett's first strike since his double defeated Carlisle in League I on October 14 and he was taken off on the hour mark with a view towards the senior clash with Cheltenham at the Galpharm on Saturday.

Danny Schofield also completed an hour on his return from illness in a match of end-to-end entertainment and he will also be available on Saturday.

Simon Eastwood, deputising for late withdrawal Paul Rachubka, made a couple of fine saves, while Beckett and John McAliskey each went close to extending Town's margin while Adam Wilson hit a post.

Leeds, including Gary Kelly, Stephen Crainey and Seb Carole, clipped the bar through Robert Bayly.

Town: Eastwood, Racchi, Wilson, Skarz (Killock), McCombe, Hand, Berrett, Bailey, Schofield (Hallam), Beckett (Akins), McAliskey. Subs not used: Smithies, Malcher.
