SCHOLES won the Under 15 cup final against Rastrick at a busy Chapelgate – earning reward for injured teammate Harry Aston.

Aston made 21 in the Scholes total of 133 in 32 overs but dislocated a knee when hitting the last of his four boundaries. The final was held up for 40 minutes while an ambulance and paramedic crew attended.

Scholes batted first, but when Tom Brook and Jack Bryson went cheaply, Rastrick were on top. It took calm batting from Louis Sykes (24) and Tom Boorman to stage a recovery – the 13-year-old Boorman hitting eight boundaries before retiring on 50.

He was given excellent late support byJake Clayton (14) and Aston.

The Rastrick reply was very much a one-man affair as Andrew Rowles made an excellent 53 (next top score five).

Bryson took two for five in five overs while Brook bowled with real pace, blasting out three batsmen in his fifth over to finish with four for 26 and the man of the match award.

Sykes also took a couple of wickets cheaply as the innings ended tamely when Adam Rowles had to retire on reaching his 50 with no-one left to replace him.
